Lagos Begins 64-Day Rehab of 20km Lekki–Epe Road on Sunday

The Lagos State Government says rehabilitation of a 20-kilometre stretch of the Lekki–Epe Road will begin on Sunday and last about 64 days.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr Olufemi Daramola, disclosed this during an inspection of the corridor, noting that the project covers both bounds from Admiralty Circle to Jubilee Bridge.

He said the upgrade, approved by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will be executed in eight sections using asphalt pavement to reduce disruption.

“We are set to commence work after reassessing the corridor and engaging stakeholders,” Daramola said.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said construction will be carried out in phases at key intersections, starting from Chevron to Igbo-Efon, with work focused on the Lagos-bound carriageway.

“To maintain traffic flow, the Lagos-bound carriageway will be closed in segments, while vehicles will be diverted to the Epe-bound side using a dynamic lane-sharing system,” he said.

Osiyemi advised motorists to use alternative routes, including the Coastal Road via Ogombo and Abraham Adesanya, as well as routes through Eleganza, Orchid Road, Lafiaji and Naale Street.

He assured road users that traffic officials, signage, lighting and safety measures would be in place throughout the project.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, urged motorists without urgent business on the corridor to avoid the route, assuring that measures have been put in place to ensure safety and smooth movement during the rehabilitation.
