Lagos Begins Fresh Ebola Surveillance Measures

The Lagos State Government has intensified disease surveillance and preparedness following the confirmation of an imported case of Ebola Bundibugyo virus in Abuja.

The state government says there are no suspected cases in Lagos, urging residents to remain calm, stay vigilant and report possible exposure promptly.

The Lagos State Ministry of Health says it is strengthening surveillance and public awareness while working with airport authorities and Port Health Services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport to improve passenger screening and emergency response.

Residents have been advised to watch out for symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhoea.

The ministry says symptoms can appear between two and 21 days after exposure and may initially resemble malaria.

The government has urged residents to wash their hands regularly, avoid contact with the body fluids of sick people and seek medical guidance if they suspect exposure to the virus.

Residents can report concerns through the Lagos emergency numbers 112 and 767, or contact the Ministry of Health’s Directorate of Epidemiology, Biosecurity and Global Health on 0802 316 9485.
