Lagos Closes Public Parks for Maintenance

The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has announced the temporary closure of public recreational parks under its management for routine maintenance and facility upgrades.

In a statement issued Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, the agency said the parks will be closed for about three weeks, from Monday, Jan. 12, through Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.

LASPARK said the decision follows increased use of public parks during the 2025–2026 festive season, when large numbers of visitors during the Christmas and New Year holidays led to wear on landscaping and facilities.

The agency said the closure will allow for landscaping work, repairs to existing amenities and general upgrades aimed at maintaining safety and cleanliness across the parks.

The shutdown affects all LASPARK-managed green spaces across the state, including several of the most frequently used parks in Ikeja, Oregun and Ojota.

According to the agency, the maintenance work will cover both physical infrastructure such as benches and playground equipment, as well as horticultural activities intended to preserve the city’s green areas.

Residents who use the parks for exercise or leisure have been advised to seek alternative outdoor spaces during the closure.

LASPARK said the parks are expected to reopen on Feb. 1, 2026, after the maintenance work is completed.
