The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has demolished a distressed six-storey residential building on Olufemi Pedro Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, after identifying serious structural defects that posed a risk of collapse.
The agency said the building was flagged during a routine inspection in the Ikoyi-Obalende area, where officials discovered foundation failure, visible sinking, differential settlement, and multiple structural cracks.
LASBCA said it issued all required statutory notices, including contravention, seal-up, and demolition notices, before carrying out the demolition.
The building had also been sealed while inspections and other enforcement procedures were completed.
According to the agency, the property owner failed to respond to the notices before the demolition.
LASBCA General Manager, Gbaye Florence, said the decision was taken to prevent a possible building collapse that could endanger lives and damage neighbouring properties.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing building regulations and said it would continue monitoring structures across Lagos State to prevent structural failures and protect residents.
