The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has dismissed a video circulating on social media claiming that additional people were rescued alive during the Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) building fire.
The fire broke out on December 24, 2025, at the 25-storey GNI House and spread to five nearby buildings. Emergency responders confirmed eight fatalities, including five identified victims, and rescued thirteen people.
The misleading video appeared on December 25, just a day after the incident. Authorities described it as false, emphasizing that it does not reflect the actual situation on the ground.
The Fire Service, working with other emergency teams, continues to carry out safety operations at the site.
The public has been urged to ignore unverified information and rely only on official updates from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
