Lagos Govt Closes Alaba International Market

The Alaba International Market in Ojo, Lagos State, has been closed due to its unsanitary conditions.

The Commissioner for Environment in the state, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this decision on Monday through his official social media account.

According to him, the closure stems from the market's inadequate waste disposal methods, failure to settle their waste bills, and multiple violations of environmental sanitation regulations.

This comes exactly a week after it reopened the popular Mile 12 market which was also closed for similar reason

Mr Wahab, said the Mile 12 market was reopened after a thorough assessment, covering various aspects of environmental compliance, waste management practices, and general cleanliness within the market.

He noted that issues critical to the environment, public health and safety were not negotiable, as the government would not watch helplessly as those values were compromised and eroded by the conduct of a few people.
