The Lagos State Police Command says it arrested 32 suspects and recovered 43 vehicles, firearms, ammunition and other exhibits during operations across the state in September 2026.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai disclosed this at a press briefing, saying the arrests involved suspected armed robbers, cultists and persons allegedly linked to unlawful possession of firearms and other violent crimes.
The command said its operations also resulted in the recovery of five pump-action guns, five locally made pistols, 20 live rounds or cartridges, 15 expended ammunitions, ₦2.5 million in cash and suspected stolen property.
The police also reported the arrest of a 21-year-old driver, Olumide Olusola, following the death of Sergeant Johnson Okediji during a stop-and-search operation on Olugbede Street, Egbeda.
Police said the officer was knocked down and dragged under the vehicle before he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The command separately said it impounded more than 41 vehicles during an early-morning enforcement operation targeting covered number plates and unregistered vehicles.
Fatai urged motorists to comply with vehicle registration and number-plate regulations, while appealing to residents to cooperate with officers conducting lawful duties.
“Security is a shared responsibility,” the commissioner said, adding that the command would continue intelligence-led operations against violent crime and cult-related activities.
