The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested or neutralised 80 suspects linked to armed robbery, infrastructure vandalism, recruitment fraud and other crimes across the state in early October 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed this during a press briefing, saying the arrests were part of the Command’s intelligence-led operations aimed at protecting lives and property.
Among the items recovered from the operations are six vehicles, four Beretta pistols, eight locally made pistols and four live 9mm rounds.
Police also recovered seven vehicle number plates, six mobile phones, six battle axes, four cutlasses, a toy gun, five sacks of illicit drugs, vandalised iron materials and electrical cables.
In one of the operations, Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives engaged suspected armed robbers in a gun battle along Gasikia Road, Ijora-Badia, on October 4.
Police said two suspects were neutralised while a 26-year-old suspect, identified as Patrick Azure, was arrested.
Nine suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalising iron materials and electrical cables along the Coastal Road, while 29 others were apprehended during operations targeting motorists and commuters along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Police also arrested three suspected members of a highway robbery syndicate linked to the theft of five vehicles and valuables worth about 50 million naira along the Ife Expressway. An operational Toyota van was recovered.
In Age-Mowo, 19 suspects, including 17 men and two women, were arrested over an alleged fraudulent job recruitment scheme targeting unsuspecting job seekers.
Meanwhile, a 43-year-old mechanic and spare parts dealer, Adekoya Adekunle, was arrested in Ikorodu for allegedly receiving stolen vehicles.
Four vehicles, including a Lexus RX 330 reportedly purchased in Cotonou, were recovered along with seven registration plates.
In Ikeja, police arrested 28-year-old Emmanuel Amadi for allegedly drugging a woman with spiked juice before stealing three high-end mobile phones valued at 3.02 million naira.
The Command also arrested a suspected gang leader, Muhammad Garuba Alabi, in Itire over the alleged assault, robbery and vandalism involving a Nigerian Army officer and his wife.
CP Fatai commended the officers involved in the operations and thanked members of the public for providing intelligence.
He said the Command would continue to disrupt criminal activities while respecting the rights of suspects and due process.
