The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority says it is aware of a viral video showing challenges faced by commuters and an encounter with a bus supervisor.
In a statement on Thursday, the authority said feedback from the video posted by @darksinned.ella has been noted and will help strengthen regulatory oversight and improve service delivery across Lagos’ regulated public transport system.
LAMATA acknowledged the growing demand for buses across the network, saying the relatively affordable and reliable services within the regulated system have attracted more commuters.
The agency added that rising global economic pressures and fuel costs have made regulated public transport a vital mobility option for many residents in Lagos.
According to the authority, it is working with private sector partners to speed up the introduction of additional buses to meet increasing commuter demand.
LAMATA clarified that the supervisor mentioned in the video works for a private Bus Operating Company and is not directly employed by the authority.
However, it said it is engaging operators to ensure service standards and commuter experience are maintained.
The authority also advised content creators to be mindful of privacy laws when filming on public transport, noting complaints from commuters about the unauthorized capture and publication of their images and videos online.
LAMATA said it will not be responsible for any breach of commuter privacy resulting from content produced or shared by third parties.
It added that the Lagos State Government has invested heavily in transport infrastructure, including rail systems, water transport terminals and dedicated bus corridors, while encouraging greater private sector participation to expand fleet capacity.
