Laporta Slams Disgraceful Officiating After Barcelona UCL Exit

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has criticised the standard of officiating following the club’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League, describing key decisions in the tie as “disgraceful” and “intolerable.”

Barcelona were knocked out by Atletico Madrid despite a strong showing across both legs, with the Catalan side falling short on aggregate after a closely contested quarter-final.

Speaking after the match, Laporta backed complaints from players and coaching staff, insisting that crucial moments in the game went against his team. He pointed to a number of incidents, including a disallowed goal and penalty appeals that were waved off, as evidence of what he believes were poor refereeing calls.

The Barcelona president said the club would not remain silent, confirming that further steps would be taken to formally raise concerns with European football authorities.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick also expressed frustration with some of the decisions, although he maintained that his side must focus on finishing the season strongly in domestic competitions.

The result ends Barcelona’s hopes of European silverware this season, with attention now turning to the league campaign and preparations for the next term.
