Lagos State Government Announces Traffic Diversion for Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway Reconstruction

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic management plan ahead of the reconstruction of a section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway between Super Bus-Stop and Ilepo Bus-Stop inbound Lagos.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government said the affected stretch of the main carriageway will be fully closed to traffic from March 7 to May 30, 2026, to allow rehabilitation works by the Federal Ministry of Works.

According to the statement, Lagos-bound motorists coming from Abeokuta and Sango Tollgate will be diverted through alternative routes during the 12-week construction period.

Motorists are advised to use the Bus Rapid Transit corridor from Super Bus-Stop and exit at Pleasure Bus-Stop near Ilepo to continue their journeys toward Oshodi and other parts of Lagos.

Alternative routes also include diversion through Ekoro Road linking Old Otta Road via Alira Street and Abeokuta Street to reconnect at Pleasure Bus-Stop, while another option allows motorists to pass through the Abule Egba Underbridge toward Agege to access their destinations.

The government added that traffic heading toward Abeokuta will maintain through movement on the opposite carriageway throughout the construction period.

Emergency tow vehicles will be stationed along the BRT corridor to promptly remove broken-down vehicles and minimise traffic disruption.

Authorities urged motorists to remain patient, obey traffic signs and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor to ensure smooth execution of the project.
