The Lagos Waste Management Authority says it evacuated more than 18,660 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste across its disposal facilities in one week following operational improvements at the Olusosun Disposal Facility.
According to LAWMA Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the agency recorded 1,866 truck trips between July 28 and August 3, 2026, with the upgraded Olusosun site accounting for 1,012 trips, a 76 per cent increase from the previous week.
According to him, the rehabilitation of the facility's access road and the addition of new waste disposal platforms have reduced truck waiting times, improved turnaround and boosted the state's waste evacuation capacity.
Gbadegesin said the agency achieved its highest single-day performance on August 1, processing 349 truck trips, equivalent to about 3,490 metric tonnes of waste.
He added that disposal facilities at Ewu-Elepe, Badagry and Oke-Osho, alongside the Waste-to-Wealth Material Recovery Facility in Igando, continue to support efficient waste management across Lagos.
The LAWMA boss said the authority plans to sustain the progress through new Transfer Loading Stations, expanded waste recovery infrastructure, waste-to-energy projects and the acquisition of additional compactor trucks as part of efforts to build a more sustainable waste management system.
