A group of lawyers under the Incorporated Trustees of the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP) has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the swearing-in of Nigerian Bar Association President-elect, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, and other newly elected national officers.
In the suit, ALDRAP is seeking an interim and perpetual injunction restraining the NBA from inaugurating the new executives pending the determination of its case challenging the conduct of the 2026 NBA election.
The group alleged voter disenfranchisement, technical failures of the electronic voting platform, non-compliance with the NBA's approved election timetable and other constitutional issues.
It also asked the court to maintain the current leadership of the association until the case is resolved.
ALDRAP further requested that Badejo-Okusanya, other elected officers and several organisations, including Amnesty International, YIAGA Africa and the Transition Monitoring Group, be joined as parties in the suit.
Badejo-Okusanya was declared winner of the NBA presidential election with 12,317 votes and is scheduled to be sworn in on August 21, 2026.
