Leadership Reporter Sues Doguwa Over Physical Assault at Press Briefing

The assaulted reporter of Leadership Newspapers in Kano, Abdullahi Yakubu, says he now has hearing impairment following the blow landed on him by a furious federal lawmaker, Ado Doguwa during a press briefing.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa who represents Tudun Wada Doguwa Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives called a press briefing on 1 November to clear the air over an ongoing rift between him and the All Progressives Congress deputy governorship candidate in Kano State, Murtala Sule Garo.

It was at the briefing that he used his fist on Yakubu.

The reporter told Wazobia FM Kano, Monday, that the matter is now in court.

He said a doctor at Murtala Mohammed Hospital examined him and established that his eardrum’s anti-panic membrane has been affected.

Yakubu explained that he had tried to calm down his longtime friend, Doguwa, who threatened to send his boys to destroy the campaign posters of Sule Garo before he was punched.

When asked why the case was not resolved amicably with his friend of 30 years, Yakubu said the lawmaker was not remorseful after his action.

“When he calmed down, I was observing him.

“He was himself before I left the house, I thought he would call me and apologize but having refused to apologize to me, I took offense.

“We have instituted a criminal case against him and the court has instructed the Office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police to conduct a discrete investigation as far as this case is concerned,” Yakubu said.
