Lekki Lynching: David Imoh’s Family Wants Bar Probed

The family of David Imoh Sunday is calling for a probe of the bar he and members of his band were scheduled to perform on the night of his lynching.

David’s wife, Grace Imoh Sunday told Nigeria Info the probe is necessary following accusations that the staff of the bar shut its doors, preventing the late David and his two bandmates from running in for safety during the attack.

“You cannot stand doing nothing when you see your colleagues in trouble, so my husband and some other of his colleagues came out to intervene in whatever has happened.

“But when they realised that the crowd fighting their guys were more in number and it was getting violent, they tried to run back into the bar for safety.

“But running back into the bar, the attackers ran after them.

“Instead of the manager of the bar to identify and tell the attackers that they are not ritualists or kidnappers as they were being accused, they pushed them back to the mobsters that they don’t know them,” she said.

Efforts to reach the management of the bar on Admiralty Way in Lekki proved abortive as it was locked when I visited.

The bar has been reportedly closed since the news of David’s lynching went viral on Sunday.

Legacy Band which David plays for was scheduled to perform at the bar before they were attacked by okada riders following an argument over N100.

Meanwhile, the Association of Music Band Owners of Nigeria has threatened to boycott performances at the bar if the accusations against them are true.

The National President of the association, Akin Shuga said the two band members – Philip Balogun and Olatunji Francis – who were with David are in a coma at an undisclosed hospital.

He called on the police to ensure none of David’s killers goes unpunished.
