Man City Beat Arsenal 2-1, Close Gap in Premier League Title Race

Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 on Sunday to cut the gap at the top of the Premier League and intensify the title race, with Erling Haaland scoring the winner in a high-stakes clash.

Pep Guardiola’s side moved within three points of leaders Arsenal, with a game in hand, as momentum swung firmly toward the champions.

“Victory over Burnley will take City top for the first time this year,” City officials noted, highlighting their charge for another title.

Arsenal briefly levelled through Kai Havertz after Rayan Cherki’s brilliant solo opener, but defensive lapses and missed chances proved costly for Mikel Arteta’s side.

City struck first when Cherki dribbled past defenders Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice before finishing calmly into the corner.

Arsenal responded when Havertz capitalised on a costly error from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was charged down after dithering on the ball.

The match swung on fine margins. Haaland hit the post before reacting quickest in the box to smash home his 34th goal of the season in the 65th minute, restoring City’s lead.

Arsenal twice hit the woodwork in a frantic spell, with Eberechi Eze and Havertz both denied by the frame of the goal.

Donnarumma also produced a key save to deny Havertz late on, while Martin Ødegaard saw a follow-up cleared off the line by Matheus Nunes.

Arsenal’s frustration boiled over when Gabriel Magalhães escaped a red card after appearing to confront Haaland, receiving only a yellow.

Arteta’s side pushed for an equaliser but failed to convert late chances, with Havertz heading over in stoppage time.

The defeat extends Arsenal’s poor run to just one win in six games across all competitions, putting their pursuit of a first league title in 22 years under serious threat.

City now hold firm control of momentum as the season enters its decisive final stretch.
