Matawalle Says Nigeria Will Soon Overcome Insecurity

Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle says Nigeria will soon overcome insecurity as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to restore lasting peace across the country.

Matawalle spoke Monday in Kano during a condolence and assessment visit to the state government following the Aug. 29 bandit attack on Chiroma village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area.

He said the government was combining proactive security operations, strategic planning and stronger collaboration with state governments to tackle security challenges.

Matawalle said President Bola Tinubu’s administration remained committed to defeating insecurity and creating a safer environment for Nigerians.

He said Tinubu had established a committee to develop a five-year defense and security strategy to provide a long-term framework for addressing security threats across the country.

The minister said security forces had launched a joint operation following the attack, led by Brig. Gen. Saka Jimoh, commander of the 3 Brigade, Kano.

He said personnel from the Joint Task Force operating from the Hawan-Kwano and Kwanar Dangora camps participated in the operation, which resulted in the rescue of several kidnapped victims around the Yan-Kifi Bridge and Marabar Kwari areas of Garun Mallam.

Matawalle commended the troops and pledged continued federal support to strengthen the operational capabilities of the armed forces and other security agencies.

He said the government would provide additional support to Kano, including fighting vehicles, weapons and other operational equipment.

The minister also called for sustained cooperation among federal, state and local governments, urging citizens to provide credible information to security agencies.

“We will continue to provide every necessary support to our security agencies to keep the country safe,” Matawalle said, expressing confidence that insecurity would soon become a thing of the past.

He later met behind closed doors with commanders of the 3 Brigade and other security formations in Kano, charging them to sustain ongoing operations and intensify efforts to protect communities.

Kano Gov. Abba Yusuf thanked the minister for the visit and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working with the Federal Government to improve security across the state.

Yusuf said the state government had confidence in the leadership of the Federal Government and would continue to take steps to promote security and stability in Kano.
