Military Says Troops Repel ISWAP Attack, Inflict Heavy Losses in Borno

The Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, says troops have repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the Buratai axis of Borno State.

In a statement on Friday, Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, said ISWAP fighters launched attacks on troops’ locations at Dusten Kura and Chara Road in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area, in the early hours of June 19.

He said troops, supported by intelligence and air assets from the Nigerian Air Force, responded with a coordinated air and ground counter-offensive that disrupted the attack and forced the terrorists to retreat.

According to the statement, precision air strikes and surveillance operations played a key role in weakening the attackers, who reportedly suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment.

The military said no casualties were recorded among its personnel during the operation.

It added that the latest operation demonstrates the readiness of troops and the continued cooperation between ground and air forces in sustaining pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North East.

Operation Hadin Kai said it remains committed to preventing insurgents from gaining freedom of action and restoring security across the region.

The public was also urged to continue providing timely information to security agencies and remain vigilant as offensive operations against terrorist groups continue.
