Murtala Muhammed Customs Hits ₦202.9 Billion, Beats 2025 Target

The Murtala Muhammed Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated ₦202.9 billion in revenue between January and December 2025, marking a 13 per cent increase over the ₦181.01 billion recorded in 2024.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, noting that the command also exceeded its annual revenue target by 13 per cent.

According to Otunla, the strong performance was driven by improved trader compliance, effective monitoring of import transactions, timely detection of irregularities, and sustained efforts to curb revenue leakages.

“This achievement reflects the impact of enhanced compliance by traders and our commitment to monitoring import activities closely to prevent revenue losses,” he said.

The comptroller commended the dedication of officers of the command, as well as collaboration with sister agencies and the support of compliant traders and licensed customs agents, describing stakeholder cooperation as critical to the outcome.

Otunla reaffirmed the command’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous stakeholder engagement, in line with the Nigeria Customs Service’s mandate to facilitate trade while generating revenue.
