Musa Praises Air Power, Challenges New NAF Chiefs to Lead Stronger Security

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), says air power remains “central to Nigeria’s operational successes,” as the Nigerian Air Force on Thursday decorated newly promoted Air Commodores and Air Vice Marshals in Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony, Musa said the promotions reflect “national confidence” in the officers’ ability to provide strategic leadership at a critical moment for national security.

“Your elevated positions require clear vision, steady judgement, and an enduring sense of purpose,” he told the officers.

He praised NAF’s contributions to precision strikes, mobility, and intelligence operations, stressing that security victories depend on stronger inter-service cooperation.

“No Service can succeed in isolation. Air operations achieve full potential only when integrated with the Army, Navy, and other agencies,” he said.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, described the new ranks as a call to “diligence, competence, and character,” noting the promotions come amid terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and emerging cyber threats.

“Rank is not only worn on the shoulders; it is carried in the mind and in the character,” he added.

Both leaders honoured fallen personnel and thanked families for their support.

Musa reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening the Armed Forces through capacity building and strategic reforms.

He urged the officers to lead with humility and dedication, commending President Bola Tinubu for his support.

The ceremony concluded with well-wishes as the officers assumed their new responsibilities.
