Retired Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the immediate past Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), says the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) inducted 15 brand-new aircraft and reactivated several older platforms during his tenure, alongside executing 589 infrastructure projects across its bases and formations.
Abubakar made the disclosure on Saturday at his Flying-Out Parade at NAF Base Abuja, marking his final official engagement after nearly two and a half years at the helm of the Service.
“Our leadership focused on transforming the Air Force into an agile and resilient force that meets national security demands in all operational environments,” Abubakar said.
“We executed not less than 589 infrastructure projects, including the Headquarters NAF Annex at Gudu, and delivered critical safety enablers such as the Instrument Landing System at NAF Base Kaduna.”
The former CAS highlighted efforts to strengthen training, maintenance culture, aviation safety, indigenous research, and self-reliance.
He also noted the establishment of the NAF Microfinance Bank as a boost to personnel welfare.
Paying tribute to fallen officers, he urged NAF personnel to uphold integrity, service before self, and excellence. He commended the parade Commander and participating personnel for demonstrating discipline and professionalism.
Abubakar also acknowledged support from sister services, local and foreign partners, the President, National Assembly, Minister of Defence, National Security Adviser, and other Service Chiefs.
He urged personnel to give the incumbent CAS, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, full loyalty and support.
“I take my leave with unshakable confidence in the future of the Nigerian Air Force and remain firmly committed to the peace, unity, and security of our great nation,” he said.
The Flying-Out Parade, steeped in military tradition and aerial spectacle, marked Abubakar’s final engagement in uniform after over three decades of service.
