The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has received 105 Nigerians rescued during an operation targeting cybercrime syndicates in Ghana.
The operation was coordinated by Nigeria’s Office of the National Security Adviser following contact from Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority. According to the Ghanaian government, 119 Nigerians were rescued, with 105 repatriated to Nigeria and 14 still undergoing processing.
Receiving the returnees, NAPTIP Director-General Binta Lami Adamu Bello assured them of their safety and urged them to remain calm as authorities conduct profiling and reintegration procedures.
She said the agency was committed to protecting their dignity and ensuring they received appropriate assistance based on their individual circumstances.
The operation involved Nigerian security and law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Services and National Intelligence Agency, alongside the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana and other partners.
NAPTIP commended the Ghanaian authorities and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency for their operational support, reaffirming its commitment to international cooperation against human trafficking and related exploitation.
The agency also urged Nigerians to verify overseas employment, scholarship and other opportunities, warning against offers involving unrealistic promises, vague job descriptions or suspicious recruitment arrangements.
The statement was signed by Vincent Adekoye, head of NAPTIP’s Press and Public Relations Unit.
