National Grid Fails Again, Nigerians Plunged Into Darkness

Millions of Nigerians were left without electricity on Friday after another collapse of the national power grid.

The latest failure has renewed concerns about the stability of the country’s power infrastructure.

It comes just weeks after a similar nationwide blackout on December 29, 2025.

Data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria shows that power generation crashed from over 4,500 megawatts to just 24 megawatts.

All 23 power plants connected to the grid reportedly shut down, leaving the 11 distribution companies with zero power allocation.

Later reports indicate that only the Ibadan Distribution Company was partially restored, receiving about 10 megawatts.

All other distribution companies remained without supply.

As of the time of reporting, the Transmission Company of Nigeria had not issued an official explanation for the grid collapse.
