The Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT has handed over five bags of cannabis sativa weighing about 500 kilograms to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following an intelligence-led operation in Lagos.
The illicit consignment was intercepted on Feb. 18 in the Abule Osun area of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area after the ship’s Quick Response Team stopped a van suspected of transporting illegal substances, the Navy said Friday.
Speaking during the handover on Feb. 20, Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, said the seizure underscores the Navy’s sustained efforts to curb criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain.
He noted that the operation was conducted under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and commended naval personnel for their vigilance and professionalism.
The seized drugs were received by Deputy Commander of Narcotics Adejumo Gbenga Ayo of the NDLEA’s Festac Area Command for further investigation.
The Navy said the interception reflects strengthened inter-agency collaboration aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and enhancing maritime security.
