The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed full aerodrome certification for Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano and Port Harcourt International Airport, bringing the total number of certified international airports in the country to four.
With the new approvals, Kano and Port Harcourt now join Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on the list of airports that meet ICAO-compliant safety, security and operational standards.
Aerodrome certification is issued only after extensive inspections covering runway safety, firefighting capability, airfield lighting, navigational aids, emergency procedures and overall management systems.
The NCAA said the development reflects ongoing reforms to raise aviation safety across Nigeria and improve confidence among international carriers and regulatory partners.
