NCDC Rules Out Ebola in Adamawa After Tests on Two Suspected Cases

Nigeria’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says laboratory tests have ruled out Ebola disease in two people isolated in Yola, Adamawa State, following reports of suspected cases.

The NCDC said it is working with the Adamawa State Government to investigate the illnesses after two individuals presented symptoms suggestive of Ebola on Oct. 30.

The suspected cases were reported to the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in the early hours of Friday, prompting public health authorities to isolate the individuals and begin response measures.

The NCDC said samples collected from the two individuals tested negative for Ebola virus after two rounds of laboratory testing.

“Currently, there is no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State,” the agency said in a statement issued Saturday by its Director-General, Dr. Jide Idris.

The NCDC added that the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory remains the only confirmed Ebola case reported in Nigeria.

Idris commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and the state’s health team for their response and said the NCDC would continue to provide technical support to strengthen ongoing surveillance and response operations.

The agency urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information or speculation about the situation.

It advised anyone experiencing symptoms including fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly after possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention and provide healthcare workers with relevant travel or contact information.

The NCDC said it would continue to monitor the situation in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and other stakeholders and provide updates as verified information becomes available.
