NDC Confirms May 29 Date for Nationwide Primaries

The Nigeria Democratic Congress says its presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly primaries will hold nationwide on May 29, 2026, as previously scheduled.

In a statement jointly signed by National Chairman Moses Cleopas and National Secretary Ikenna Alex Morgan Enekweizu, the party said some activities planned for May 28 were adjusted due to transportation and logistical challenges linked to the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.

According to the party, many aspirants and members of the screening committee who travelled to Abuja were unable to return to their states because of limited flight availability.

The NDC said May 28 will now be dedicated to arrivals, documentation with INEC and security agencies, consultative meetings and other preparations ahead of the primaries.

The party added that its officials will also engage stakeholders, party elders and aspirants across the states before voting begins.

It stressed that no state agency, including the Nigeria Police Force, Independent National Electoral Commission or the Department of State Services, is expected to participate in the May 28 meetings, warning that any activity outside approved guidelines would be considered unauthorised.

The party said the May 29 exercise will cover presidential affirmation, governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly primaries.

It added that all results will be collated and forwarded to its national headquarters for announcement by the National Working Committee.

The NDC also warned members against violence, disorderly conduct and hooliganism during the exercise.
