NDC Moves to Resolve Kano Crisis, Rules Out Candidate Imposition

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has begun efforts to resolve a growing dispute within its Kano State chapter following disagreements over the sharing of party positions between longtime members and new entrants from the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said its leadership had initiated mediation talks aimed at promoting unity and ensuring inclusion among party members.

According to the statement, leaders of the Kwankwasiyya Movement recently held a closed-door meeting with the party's national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and other NDC officials to address concerns arising from the crisis.

The party said the meeting focused on resolving differences between members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and existing NDC officials in Kano State.

NDC leadership, led by Dickson, is currently facilitating discussions to strengthen internal cohesion and encourage broad participation within the party.

The party also dismissed reports claiming that candidates had already emerged from its primary elections, insisting that no official results had been released in any state.

It stressed that no candidate would be imposed in Kano or elsewhere, reiterating its commitment to internal democracy and transparent electoral processes.

The development follows reports of renewed tensions over a power-sharing arrangement reached after the defection of former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and his supporters to the NDC.

Under the reported agreement, executive positions and electoral tickets were to be shared between the Kwankwasiyya Movement and existing NDC members on a 60-40 basis.

However, disagreements resurfaced after the circulation of an alleged candidates' list, with some party members accusing the Kwankwasiyya bloc of failing to fully adhere to the arrangement.
