NDC Primaries: Dickson Admits Irregularities, Urges Reconciliation and Unity

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, says the just-concluded primaries of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) were not perfect, acknowledging reports of irregularities while urging party members to embrace reconciliation

In a statement following an Arise Television interview, Dickson said the party is managing a difficult political transition, noting that internal disputes over the primaries are not unique to the NDC.

He compared the party’s experience to larger, more established parties, saying even those with sitting presidents and stronger political structures have faced similar challenges.

Dickson said the party is still in its early stages and had to quickly conduct membership registration, congresses, primaries, and appeal processes within a tight electoral timetable.

He also criticised the Electoral Act requirement for compulsory direct primaries, arguing that it has contributed to widespread complaints across political parties.

According to him, the NDC has not officially announced any primary results and urged the public to disregard unofficial claims circulating on social media.

Dickson added that a reconciliation committee has been set up to resolve grievances arising from the exercise, stressing that future primaries would be technology-driven to avoid a repeat of the issues.

He also called for unity among party members, urging support for all candidates across various levels of election.
