NDC Uploads Peter Obi's Nomination Particulars to INEC Portal

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has uploaded the nomination particulars of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, marking another step in the party's preparations for the 2027 general election.

The announcement was made Wednesday by the party's National Leader, Sen. Seriake Dickson, in a post on his X account.

Dickson said the party had complied with INEC's electoral timetable and assured members that the nomination of candidates for other elective offices was progressing as scheduled.

"The name of the vice-presidential candidate will be uploaded after the completion of the required documentation, while the submission of candidates for other elective positions is also ongoing," he said.

He dismissed concerns over the nomination process, saying the party had sufficient time to complete submissions for National Assembly, governorship and state House of Assembly candidates before the commission's deadlines.

"There is enough time for all candidates' names to be submitted to INEC, and there is no reason for anyone to panic," Dickson said.

The former Bayelsa governor also disclosed that the NDC had appealed a court ruling affecting the party and filed an application for a stay of execution.

According to him, both processes have been served on the INEC chairman with a request for the commission to act in accordance with the law.

Dickson maintained that the NDC remains a duly registered political party, noting that its nationwide primaries were monitored by INEC and that the remaining task is the administrative submission of qualified candidates through the commission's nomination portal.

He thanked party aspirants for participating in the primaries and acknowledged that the exercise presented challenges.

Dickson said reconciliation efforts were underway and assured unsuccessful aspirants that they would play active roles in the party's campaign structures and committees.

He also commended INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan and the commission for what he described as professionalism in registering the NDC and two other political parties in compliance with a court order.

Dickson urged INEC, the judiciary and security agencies to remain impartial in protecting Nigeria's democratic process, expressing confidence that the courts would resolve the pending appeal in accordance with the law.

"The NDC has come to stay," he said, calling on Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and the country's multi-party system.
