NDLEA Raids 3 Lagos Drug Warehouses, Seizes N16.9bn Opioids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency) says it has dismantled three illicit drug warehouses in Lagos State and recovered opioids valued at about N16.9 billion in an intelligence-led operation.

NDLEA says the operation led to the recovery of 2,360,000 tablets of high-potency tramadol 225mg and 1,909,400 bottles of codeine syrup concealed across three warehouses.

The agency said 19,094 cartons of codeine syrup and 34 cartons of tramadol were seized during the raids, describing the operation as one of its largest recent drug busts in Lagos.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), said the operation dealt a major blow to drug trafficking networks.

“This seizure is a testament that our officers are staying several steps ahead of these merchants of death,” Marwa said. “There is no safe haven for drug traffickers in Nigeria.”

He added that the agency would continue to target and dismantle criminal drug networks regardless of where they operate.

“Whether they hide their illicit goods in elite estates or suburban warehouses, we will find them, we will dismantle their networks, and we will bring them to justice,” he said.

Marwa also commended NDLEA operatives for what he described as professionalism and effective intelligence gathering in executing the operation.

The agency says investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest members of the trafficking syndicate behind the shipments.
