NECO Defends Kogi School Over Miracle Centre Allegation

The National Examinations Council has rejected claims that Government Secondary School, Olowa in Kogi State is a “miracle examination centre.”

NECO says the allegation is false and does not reflect its official records.

The clarification follows comments by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, after the abduction of a school principal, an examination supervisor and students during the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination.

The examination body says the school is a public secondary school owned by the Kogi State Government and has been presenting candidates for NECO exams since 2000.

It also clarified that the abducted principal and examination supervisor are state government employees, while the 28 students presented for the 2026 SSCE are genuine students of the school.

NECO released the school’s enrolment records from 2021 to 2025, saying the figures show a consistent pattern of student participation.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to fighting examination malpractice and urged public officials to verify information before making statements that could damage institutions’ reputation.
