NEMA Receives 180 Nigerian Returnees From Libya

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 180 Nigerian returnees from Sebha, Libya, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The returnees arrived at about 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, aboard an Air Buraq Airlines flight under the Assisted Voluntary Return programme coordinated by the International Organization for Migration in collaboration with the Federal Government.

The group comprised 143 adults, 26 children and 11 infants. The adults included 75 men and 68 women, while the children comprised 12 boys and 14 girls. The infants included three boys and eight girls.

NEMA’s Lagos Operations Office received the returnees in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.

On arrival, the Nigeria Immigration Service conducted biometric registration and documentation to establish the returnees’ identities and support subsequent reintegration.

The returnees also received humanitarian assistance, including food, drinking water, medical screening, counselling and logistical support. Ambulance services were available for those requiring medical attention.

NEMA said the reception exercise involved relevant government agencies and partners working together to ensure the returnees’ safe and dignified arrival and provide assistance for their reintegration into their communities.
