Nigeria Airports Authority Assures Nigerians of Enhanced Ebola Surveillance at Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria says enhanced preventive measures have been activated across the country’s international airports following recent Ebola Virus Disease concerns in parts of Central Africa.

In a statement released Wednesday, FAAN said it is working with Port Health Services, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, and other relevant agencies to intensify passenger screening and health surveillance, especially for travellers arriving from high-risk regions.

The agency said passengers are being monitored for Ebola-related symptoms, while suspected cases would be isolated immediately and subjected to further health checks in line with national and international protocols.

FAAN also stated that staff sensitisation, emergency response procedures and coordination with relevant stakeholders have been strengthened to ensure rapid response where necessary.

The authority reassured the public that there is currently no confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria and urged passengers to remain calm, cooperate with screening procedures and report any symptoms to health officials.
