Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, met with the French Defence Attaché, Colonel Stéphane Useo, at Army Headquarters, Abuja, to strengthen bilateral defence ties aimed at addressing regional insecurity.
Lieutenant General Shaibu praised France’s ongoing support, highlighting intelligence sharing, military training, and operational readiness assistance.
“These partnerships are vital in countering security threats across our region,” he said, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to professional development and capacity building.
Colonel Useo commended the Nigerian Army’s resilience, particularly its successful recovery operations in the Republic of Benin.
He emphasized expanding access to advanced military courses, noting, “The Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information stands as one of Africa’s best for training in civil-military affairs and communication management.”
He affirmed France’s dedication to enhancing joint efforts for regional stability, describing the partnership as “mutually reinforcing” in building sustainable military capacity and addressing emerging security challenges.
This engagement marks a significant step toward deepening operational cooperation between Nigerian and French forces in response to evolving security dynamics.
