The Federal Government has declared Friday a public holiday to mark this year's Democracy Day celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
According to the minister, June 12 remains a landmark date in Nigeria's history, symbolising the courage, resilience and sacrifices of citizens who fought for democratic governance.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the government's commitment to democratic values, including the rule of law, transparency, accountability and inclusive governance.
He also urged Nigerians to use the holiday as a time for reflection and to renew their commitment to national unity, responsible citizenship and lawful conduct.
