The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Delta State Council has declared an indefinite strike following the reported death of a deputy director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.
The deceased, identified as Unity Adedah, was reported to have died on Wednesday morning after he was allegedly tied up and beaten by thugs.
The NLC alleged that the attack was carried out on the orders of the Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu.
The allegations have not been independently verified.
NLC Chairman in Delta State, Goodluck Oforbruku, announced the indefinite strike while addressing protesting civil servants at the Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba.
The union is demanding action over the circumstances surrounding Adedah’s death, as workers protested at the state secretariat.
The development is expected to affect government activities across the state as the NLC directs workers to withdraw their services indefinitely.
