Nigeria Moves Academic Credential Verification Online, Ends Physical Submissions

The Federal Ministry of Education says it has fully automated the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials, shifting all applications to an online platform as part of efforts to improve transparency and service delivery.

The ministry said the move aligns with the federal government’s digital transformation agenda and is aimed at strengthening data integrity, improving efficiency and supporting evidence-based policymaking in the education sector.

Under the new system, all applications will be processed exclusively through the ministry’s official verification portal. Applicants are required to register and upload relevant documents via **essverify.education.gov.ng**.

The ministry also directed applicants to request their academic transcripts from their institutions, which must be sent directly from official school email addresses to **[ess1@education.gov.ng](mailto:ess1@education.gov.ng)** for verification.

It emphasized that physical visits to the ministry for credential authentication are no longer required, as the process is now fully electronic.

Officials say the transition is expected to simplify procedures, reduce processing time and strengthen the credibility of academic credential verification in Nigeria.

For inquiries, applicants can contact **[ess.enquiry@education.gov.ng](mailto:ess.enquiry@education.gov.ng)**.

The ministry urged applicants to comply strictly with the new guidelines to ensure timely processing of requests.
