The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has responded to reports of civilian casualties following air operations on January 25, 2026, in Kurigi Village, Mariga Local Government Area, Niger State.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the reported injuries and loss of life, the NAF expressed deep concern and emphasized that protecting non-combatants remains central to its operations.
Over the past year, the NAF has implemented its Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan (CHMR-AP), which integrates civilian protection into all operational phases.
This includes enhanced training, procedures, and safeguards to minimize harm.
In line with this commitment, the NAF has activated a Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation (CHAI) team to conduct a thorough and immediate investigation into the incident.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at the NAF headquarters, assured Nigerians of the Air Force’s dedication to accountability and transparency.
He said, “We remain resolute in taking responsibility where required, making necessary improvements, and safeguarding innocent lives, while defending the nation with professionalism and respect for the trust placed in us.”
The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to balancing national security with civilian safety as it continues operations.
