The Nigerian Army has been recognised as Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch.
The award honours the Army’s operational achievements, strategic leadership and efforts in tackling terrorism and violent extremism across Nigeria.
The recognition was presented to Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja after it was received on behalf of the Army at the African Security Watch Awards in Banjul, The Gambia.
Shaibu described the award as a recognition of the courage, professionalism and sacrifices of Nigerian soldiers in protecting the country.
He dedicated the honour to officers and soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as their families for their support.
The Army chief said the recognition validates Nigeria’s counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency strategy, while reaffirming the military’s commitment to intelligence-led operations, improved training, stronger collaboration and modern capabilities.
African Security Watch said the Nigerian Army earned the award based on its joint operations, intelligence-driven campaigns, civil-military cooperation and capacity-building efforts.
The organisation said the Army has become a benchmark for professional excellence and operational effectiveness in counter-terrorism across Africa.
