The Nigerian Army has announced a major reshuffle of its senior leadership, with new appointments across key operational, command, training, and administrative positions as part of efforts to strengthen national security and improve operational effectiveness.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said the postings, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, are aimed at enhancing the service’s capacity to tackle emerging security challenges.
Among the new appointments, Major General WM Dangana has been named General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, while Major General EI Okoro takes over as GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE.
Major General JR Lar was appointed Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, Brigadier General OM Oyekola becomes Acting Military Secretary (Army), while Brigadier General I Waziri retains his role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.
The reshuffle also affects operational commands, with Brigadier General IB Buhari appointed Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade and Brigadier General K Rabiu taking charge of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.
In a move highlighting the Army’s focus on technology-driven security operations, Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, while Major General O Adegbe becomes Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.
The Army also announced several appointments in military training and education.
Major General KE Chigbu was named Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, while Major General SO Adejimi and Major General FS Etim were appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport and Chief of Training at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), respectively.
Brigadier General U Ahmad will serve as Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.
Other appointments include Major General KO Ukandu as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, and Major General AI Allison as Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.
The Army said the Chief of Army Staff urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, innovation, exemplary leadership, and commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting internal security operations.
It added that the reshuffle underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to building a more professional, combat-ready, and people-oriented force capable of addressing current and future security threats.
