The Nigerian Navy, through personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO, says it has recorded a major operational success in the ongoing fight against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta.
On April 25, 2026, at about 3 a.m., FOB FORMOSO personnel acted on credible intelligence and carried out a coordinated raid at Egbama-Angalabiri in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The operation led to the arrest of a suspected syndicate leader, identified as Mr. Godwin, also known as “Idiot.”
The Navy described him as the leader of a notorious pipeline vandalism network operating within the Clough Creek axis.
According to the Navy, sustained surveillance confirmed the suspect’s involvement in recent attacks on critical oil and gas infrastructure, as well as his movement patterns and residence.
He was arrested at a nearby night market where he allegedly extorted illegal levies from traders.
During a follow-up search of his residence, naval personnel reportedly encountered resistance from armed members of the syndicate.
The Navy said the situation was “swiftly brought under control through a coordinated tactical response,” forcing the attackers to retreat.
A search of the residence led to the recovery of two handheld radios and other equipment allegedly used in illegal activities.
Further intelligence led to the arrest of another suspect, identified as Mr. Happiness, believed to be an associate, as well as the recovery of a pump-action gun.
The suspects have been handed over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps for investigation and prosecution.
The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national assets and said it would sustain operations against economic saboteurs.
“The Nigerian Navy remains resolute in its mandate to protect the nation’s maritime domain and critical national assets,” Navy spokesman Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho said. “Criminal elements are advised to desist or face decisive action.”
