Nigerian Navy Hands Over Suspected Militant Collaborator to DSS in Calabar Crackdown

The Nigerian Navy has handed over a suspected militant collaborator to the Department of State Services in Calabar, following ongoing operations aimed at clearing criminal networks from the Calabar waterways.

The suspect, identified as Ime Edet Ekiko, also known as “Pastor Ime,” was arrested on May 24, 2026, by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship Victory at a security outpost on Dayspring Island in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Naval authorities said the arrest followed credible intelligence linking him to a wanted militant, identified as Simeon, alias “Papi,” who allegedly operated within the area.

The Navy said sustained pressure from its operations forced the militant to flee, abandoning equipment that was later found in the suspect’s custody.

According to the Navy, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect maintained regular contact with the fugitive militant and allegedly provided information on the movement and deployment of security forces in the waterways.

Officials also said he was found with items believed to have supported militant activities and had been using abandoned equipment for personal gain.

After interrogation, the suspect was transferred to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Naval spokesperson Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho said the handover reflects “intelligence-driven operations” that have continued to disrupt criminal networks in the area.

He said the Navy remains committed to sustaining pressure on militants and their collaborators to restore safety and enable lawful economic activity in the waterways.
