Nigerian Navy Marines Kill 34 Boko Haram Terrorists in Lake Chad Operations

The Nigerian Navy says its Marines have killed 34 Boko Haram terrorists in two separate offensive operations in the Lake Chad area of Borno State, as part of ongoing efforts to weaken the group's activities in the North-East.

The Navy disclosed that 28 terrorists were killed during an operation on October 28.

It says the initial report put the casualty figure at eight, but a subsequent battle damage assessment revised the number to 28.

In a separate operation on October 30, the Marines launched a strike against a Boko Haram hideout in Dumba.

The operation followed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions which helped troops identify and monitor the terrorist enclave before carrying out a precision strike.

A preliminary assessment indicates that about six terrorists were killed in the operation, while several others sustained injuries.

The Navy says the casualty figures are still subject to further verification as assessments continue.

The operations were conducted by the Nigerian Navy Marines stationed at the Naval Base Lake Chad, alongside the Nigerian Army's 403 Amphibious Brigade, under Operation Hadin Kai.

The Navy says the recently established Marines have strengthened joint military operations in the Lake Chad area by improving the military's ability to target terrorist hideouts, disrupt their activities and restrict their movements.

It adds that the operations are part of sustained efforts to weaken Boko Haram's capabilities, protect vulnerable communities and restore peace and stability in the North-East.

The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, says the Nigerian Navy remains committed to supporting joint military operations through intelligence-driven engagements and sustained offensive action.
