NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms, Moderate Rain Across Nigeria Through Tuesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast cloudy conditions, thunderstorms and varying levels of rainfall across Nigeria from Sunday through Tuesday.

In its weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet said the northern region would experience sunny skies with patches of clouds and chances of early morning thunderstorms during the period.

For Sunday, the agency forecast light rain over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba and Adamawa states, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rain across most parts of the region later in the afternoon or evening.

In the North Central, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds and chances of early morning thunderstorms, with light rain expected over parts of Kwara, Niger, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory.

Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain are expected across most parts of the North Central later in the day.

The agency forecast cloudy conditions in the southern region on Sunday, with light rain possible over parts of Oyo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom during the morning.

Moderate rain is expected later in the day over parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

For Monday, NiMet forecast sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region, with morning thunderstorms and moderate rain possible in parts of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara.

Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain are expected over parts of Yobe, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa.

The North Central region is expected to experience cloudy skies with spells of sunshine, while parts of Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and the FCT could see morning thunderstorms and moderate rain.

NiMet said the southern region would remain cloudy, with light rain expected across most parts of the South-West during the morning and moderate rain forecast over the South-South and South-East later in the day.

On Tuesday, the agency forecast sunny skies with a few patches of clouds over the northern region during the morning.

Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rain are expected later in the day over parts of Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna and the North-East.

The North Central is expected to have sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rain across most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening.

NiMet forecast cloudy conditions across the southern region, with light rain possible over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River in the morning and moderate rain expected across the region later in the day.

The agency warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in areas where rain is expected.

NiMet advised residents in affected areas to remain alert to changing weather conditions, particularly during periods of thunderstorms and heavy rain.
