NNPP Accuses INEC Of Ignoring Court Orders Ahead Of 2027 Polls

The faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party led by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of delaying the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the faction’s National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, alleged that INEC had failed to comply with court orders relating to the party’s leadership dispute, despite several legal rulings and engagements with the commission.

He warned that the party could mobilise supporters for a nationwide protest in Abuja if the situation persists.

Olaposi claimed the delay was affecting the party’s screening process and preparations for the elections, adding that INEC’s actions were pushing the party “to the wall.”

He said the party had earlier suspended a planned protest after appeals from stakeholders concerned about possible violence or infiltration by hoodlums.

According to him, a meeting held with INEC officials in Abuja on May 19 raised hopes that the commission would act on court directives recognising the faction’s National Working Committee led by Dr. Agbo Major.

He, however, alleged that the commission had yet to comply with a court order directing it to upload the leadership structure within 72 hours.

The NNPP faction further accused INEC of continuing to recognise the Kwankwasiyya structure linked to Rabiu Kwankwaso despite court judgments and alleged defections by some party figures.

Olaposi maintained that the party reserves the constitutional right to stage peaceful protests if INEC fails to implement the court rulings, insisting that the party would not accept exclusion from the electoral process.
