The Oyo State Government says no confirmed case of Ebola has been recorded in the state, assuring residents that surveillance and emergency response measures are in place to prevent a possible outbreak.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, says preparations began in June to strengthen the state’s readiness for Ebola and other infectious diseases.
She adds that disease surveillance teams have been activated across the state’s 33 local government areas, while infection prevention measures have been strengthened in healthcare facilities.
Ajetunmobi says trained health workers and laboratory teams are available to respond to suspected cases, while the Infectious Disease Centre at Olodo has been prepared for emergencies.
She warns that early Ebola symptoms may resemble malaria and urges anyone experiencing sudden fever, severe headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding to seek medical attention promptly.
The commissioner also advises residents to wash their hands regularly, avoid contact with the body fluids of suspected or confirmed patients and refrain from spreading unverified information.
Residents can report suspected cases through the state’s emergency lines, including 0803374205 and 08025245809 in the Ibadan zone.
