Nollywood, Fans Mourn Alexx Ekubo After Reported Death

Tributes have continued to pour in for popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo following reports of his death after a prolonged battle with cancer.

He reportedly died in a Lagos hospital on May 11 after months away from the public eye and social media, aged 40.

While no official statement had been issued by his family as of Wednesday morning, several colleagues and associates publicly mourned him online.

Actress Funke Akindele described the actor as a close friend, saying she had tried to reach him one last time before his death.

According to her, she would always cherish the memories and good times they shared together.

Actor Bolanle Ninalowo also mourned the late actor, praying for strength for his family and loved ones.

Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe said he was struggling to find words to describe the loss, adding that Nollywood had lost a rare soul.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore described Ekubo as a rare talent whose screen presence lit up the screen effortlessly, despite never meeting him personally.

Another actor, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, recalled how Ekubo encouraged him during his first audition in 2016, telling him he had talent for acting.

The emotional reactions shared online by friends, colleagues and fans reflected the shock surrounding the actor’s reported death, with many struggling to fully process the news.

Ekubo was widely known for starring in films including Weekend Getaway and Omo Ghetto: The Saga.
