Obasanjo's Administration Far Better Than Buhari's - Caller

The response of the presidency to comments made by former president Olusegun Obasanjo in criticisms of the current administration has come under huge flak.

The presidency in a statement released on Monday and signed by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, accused Obasanjo of being envious of “anyone who beats him to a new record in the nation’s development process.”

Sequel to this strong remark, Olusegun Obasanjo had in a letter said that many Nigerians have moved from “frying pan to fire and from mountain top to the valley” under Buhari’s seven-plus-year regime.

His seeming endorsement of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi ahead of the February general elections has furthermore stoked flames as it has drawn admiration from many.

So to what degree can these criticisms from Obasanjo and the presidency's scathing response be justified?

Speaking to Joyce Onyemuwa on the Sunny Side, a caller reckons the primary focus should be channeled to the contents of the former president's letter and nothing else.

"Obasanjo wrote a letter in the interest of the poor masses and the youths, we should focus more on the contents of the letter than the fact that he endorsed somebody.

"All the other presidential candidates went to him begging for endorsement; because he didn't, now they are having a different view."

Another however thinks in the wake of the current economic situation in the country, "an enemy of the state is anyone canvassing for this administration to continue."

Furthermore, the presidency's response to Obasanjo's letter through his Senior Special Assistant, Media, and Publicity Garba Shehu, is just an electioneering strategy for "his principal to continue in power."
