The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The decision was reached on Monday during a strategic caucus meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, emerged as the preferred choice of party leaders at the meeting convened by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi.
The meeting was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun, alongside former governors Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, as well as other key stakeholders of the party.
Party sources said the consensus decision followed an appeal by Governor Abiodun to other aspirants from Ogun West, including Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Abiodun Akinlade, to step down in support of Adeola in the interest of unity.
In his acceptance speech, Adeola thanked party leaders for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to sustain Ogun State’s development trajectory.
He described the state as a major industrial hub and one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economies, promising to build on existing achievements.
“I will not let you down. I will keep the flag flying and maintain the unity, peace and progress that Ogun State has witnessed,” Adeola said.
The senator also assured party stakeholders of his commitment to inclusiveness, stressing that he would work to keep members united regardless of political differences.
The development is seen as a significant step in the build-up to the 2027 governorship race in Ogun State, with analysts suggesting the endorsement may narrow the field of contenders within the ruling party.
